The Gunsmith will play a crucial role in supporting the training mission of Office of Firearms and Tactical Programs Strategic Operations and Development Division:
Strategic Development Unit (SDU) at Fort Moore.
These units are responsible for developing and delivering post-basic, advanced, specialized, and use of force related training on-site at Fort Moore or in the field.
The training provided by these units certifies instructors for firearms, defensive tactics, special response team leaders, and members, and field.
The Gunsmith must have a deep understanding of firearm mechanics, ballistics, and the specific regulations and laws related to firearms.
The Gunsmith must also possess excellent attention to detail, craftsmanship, and problem-solving skills in order to provide high-quality services to their customers.
DUTIES &
Responsibilities:
Perform firearm maintenance, repair and testing, and complete maintenance record documentation of weapons.
Perform periodic and random inspections of ICE authorized firearm systems including carbines, less lethal shotguns, pistols and other specialty launchers.
Perform inventories of all weapons, equipment and ammunition located at the armory.
Be skilled in the repair, maintenance, modification, and customization of firearms.
Work with various types of firearms, including handguns, rifles, shotguns, etc.
Gunsmithing is both an art and a science, as it requires a combination of technical skills, mechanical knowledge, and craftsmanship.
Inspect firearms for any issues or damage and perform repairs to ensure proper functioning.
Regularly conduct maintenance and inspections on firearms to ensure proper functionality and safety.
Skillfully disassemble firearms, meticulously clean components, and reassemble them following standard procedures.
Identify and diagnose basic mechanical issues and malfunctions in firearms to address potential problems.
Perform minor repairs and replace parts, such as springs, pins, and triggers, to keep firearms in optimal working condition.
Carry out basic modifications and enhancements to firearms when required, adhering to specifications and regulations.
Ensure full compliance with specifications and regulations during all repair and modification processes.
Maintain accurate records of all work performed and parts used for efficient documentation.
Assist in managing the inventory of firearms, parts, and tools to maintain proper stock levels.
Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines in all gunsmithing activities to prioritize safety for oneself and others.
Fix broken parts, replace worn-out components, and address malfunctioning mechanisms.
May involve modifying firearm features, such as triggers, grips, sights, and stocks, to enhance performance and accuracy.
Meticulous cleaning May require performing barrel work, such as fitting new barrels to firearms or re-chambering existing barrels to different calibers.
May be required to work on improving accuracy of firearms by bedding the action (ensuring proper fit and alignment within the stock), adjusting the trigger, and optimizing barrel harmonics.
Conduct safety checks and inspections to ensure that firearms are in compliance with safety standards and regulations.
May be required to use specialized tools and machinery to manufacture or modify gun parts, requiring skills in metalworking and machining.
Must be up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and research in the field of gunsmithing and firearms to enhance skills and ensure high quality firearms maintenance and repairs.

MINIMUM &
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited gunsmithing program, such as those offered by the American Gunsmithing Association (AGA), National Rifle Association (NRA), National Gunsmith School (NGS), etc.
Fundamental understanding of firearm operation and mechanics.
Familiarity with various firearms platforms and models.
Proficiency in disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling firearms.
Capability to diagnose and perform basic repairs on firearms.
Meticulous attention to detail and precision in all gunsmithing tasks.
Excellent manual dexterity and mechanical skills.
Ability to follow technical instructions and adhere to safety procedures.
Physical aptitude to handle firearms and carry out repetitive tasks.
Ability to travel and spend up to 5 days a week each month at offsite SDU locations.
Experience in Federal Law Enforcement Training Programs (preferred) Ability to pass a standard background check, drug screening, and possess a valid US passport or driver's license.
Must possess unrestricted work authorization.
Must be a Citizen of the United States.
